If you’re taller, shorter, or dealing with chronic back pain, here’s how we support you
1. What to Look for in an Ergonomic Office Chair
An ergonomic chair adapts to your body and working style, not the other way around.
Key features to look for:
- Adjustable seat height so your feet rest flat on the floor
- Proper lumbar support to maintain the natural curve of your lower back
- Seat depth adjustment to support your thighs without pressure behind the knees
- Free-Float or Synchronous (synchro) tilt mechanism to allow dynamic sitting
- Adjustable armrests to reduce shoulder and neck strain.
If you value your long-term health and wellbeing and you sit for more than six hours per day, a fully adjustable ergonomic chair should not be optional....it's a 'must have'.
2. Office Chairs for Back Pain and Spinal Support
For ongoing or chronic back pain, an orthopedic chair provides targeted spinal support. By using a free-float mechanism that ensures dynamic sitting, orthopedic chairs:
- improve spinal alignment
- reduce pressure points
- and support healthy posture during long sitting periods. Orthopedic vs Ergonomic Chairs: Which Is Best for You?
Wellback Orthopedic Chairs are the ideal choice for anyone with chronic lower back pain, disc problems or existing spinal issues.
3. Office Chairs for Big and Tall People
For big and tall people, finding an office chair that provides adequate support and promotes proper posture can be a real challenge. Chairs for taller users should offer:
- higher backrests. Best Chairs with a Headrest for Tall People
- seat depth adjustment up to about 50cm
- higher weight ratings
- greater height adjustment. The chair's height should be adjustable to allow the user to position their feet flat on the ground with their knees slightly below the level of their hips.
As noted by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, a chair becomes ergonomic only when it specifically suits a worker’s size, their particular workstation, and the tasks that must be performed.
4. Office Chairs for Shorter People
Chairs for shorter users should have:
- a shorter seat depth of 40-45cm to ensure that the chair provides proper thigh and back support without causing discomfort or restricting blood flow to the legs.
- In conjunction with seat depth adjustment, short people should look for office chairs with an adjustable lumbar support that aligns with the natural curvature of their spine. Choosing the Right Office Chair for Short People
Choosing a chair that fits your height helps prevent slouching, leg pressure and poor circulation. The consequences of sitting on the wrong chair.
5. High Back Chair – When Do You Need One?
Have you ever found yourself stuck in the old office chair debate: mid back or high back (executive) chair? Which one is truly the better choice, and does it even matter?
- A mid back chair typically has a backrest that reaches about shoulder height.
- The standout feature that sets a contemporary high back office chair apart from a mid-back, is the addition of an adjustable headrest.
Most of our high back chairs achieve an impressive 5-Star Ergonomic Rating, providing premium support and comfort.
